Greetings Crew!
My name is Brian Blakely, and I'm proud to teach at Open World Learning, the school from which I graduated in 2002.
I have been teaching special education for 18 years, starting my career in the New York City Public schools, then moving abroad to teach in Casablanca, Morocco before moving back to Saint Paul to raise my family and serve the students and families of the Saint Paul Public Schools. Throughout my career I have been deeply committed to building partnership with families in supporting the success of each child. I truly do believe that each child is the hope and promise of humankind.
Open World Learning Community is a small school with a small special education team that works collaboratively to support student needs. As the autism spectrum teacher, I primarily support students receiving services in this area, but case manage across disability categories.
You will see me working with your child in the areas of reading, writing and organization / work habits. I am happy to answer questions you may have about your child's individual education plan (IEP) and their school experience at Open World Learning.
Outside of school, I am an avid canoeist and camper, and enjoy spending time with my family.
My wife Catherine is an educator in SPPS, and my children both attend St Paul Public Schools.
