Open World Learning Holds STEM Day

OWL holds STEM Day

Earlier this month, a group of 30 female and non-binary students from Open World Learning came together to celebrate their interest in STEM. At the start of the day, students talked to thirteen female panelists of a variety of careers, including Doctors, Toxicologists, Data Analysts, Ecologists, and more.

In the afternoon, after a networking luncheon, students participated in three, 40-minute breakout sessions: looking at animal skulls, a popsicle-stick engineering competition, and coding with Makey Makey invention kits, combining art and computer science.

This successful event, organized by a senior and three sophomores (along with two supervising science teachers), took several months of planning and organizing. They contacted panelists and breakout session leaders, made customized shirts, and more!
