| This is the coolest place to teach physical education! Why? Because I get to teach Kindergarten all the way up to High School Seniors. So it is possible for a student to be at Open School and get to know me and vise versa for 13 years. How many kids or teachers can say that they got to do that?
WHAT'S OLD, WHAT'S NEW , WHAT'S IN THE WORKS?
Well first of all I'm old! Na, I feel 20 again working here. Thats how much fun I'm having teaching Open School Kids.
Our Climbing Wall has a new partner, its a Cargo Net which the carpenters installed for us late last spring and summer. We also have had some additions to our weight room this year. More weights and bars, a couple of medicine balls and thanks to Larry Kaul and his mom Bonnie who donated some wieghts and another weight bench, we are able to workout even harder.
This fall semester we were able to add an advanced class for 10 -12 graders interested in body building and fitness. This will be offered again in the second semester.
Also, through a connection with the National Archery in the Schools Program we were able to offer as part of the physical education program, archery for 4th - 8th grade. So far the kids are loving it and doing very well. Don't worry it is absolutely safe. 80,000 students in the state of Minnesota are involved in the program and there has been no injuries. I plan to keep it that way too.
There are plans in the works to advance Archery to an after school program and eventually have an elementary, middle school and high school team that would compete in the metro area. I will keep you updated on that as the year goes along.
Look, also, for two more family nights this year to promote the Fun 25 fitness and Nutrition PEP Grant that we were part of last year and will continue with this year.
