Dear Parents, Families, and Students:

Welcome to Open School, an exciting and empowering place to be!  I joined the dedicated teachers at Open School as principal in 2006 and became part of a truly unique, family-like small learning community. Our beautifully renovated building houses the only K-12 school in the district with a population of about 400 students.  Our school nurtures students to become confident self-directed learners who are actively involved in their educational choices.

Open School is a safe, caring place where students become powerfully connected to our staff members through cross-age advisory groups, and activities from theatre, to strings, to student government, History Day, and Destination Imagination, and through classes designed to encourage self-direction and intrinsic motivation.
Before they complete graduation portfolios, our students have demonstrated proficiencies in rigorous academic skills and knowledge, and are connected to the broader community through 300 hours of service learning.

At Open School you can be a "big fish in a small pond". And when you leave, you will have left a mark. Students and parents are well known and in close communication with staff. When I had just arrived at the school, I  met with two graduates of Open School who were desperate to bend my ear about the values they wanted me, as a new Open School leader, to uphold. Our graduates, years after leaving, still regard Open School as their school and highly prize the relationships and educational challenges it offered them.

To see how your child could thrive in our child-centered program, please call us at 651-293-8670 to schedule a tour.  I look forward to talking with you!
