Open School is proud to serve more than 125 students in our English Language Learners (ELL) program! With roots in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, these students and their families bring a rich diversity to our school community.

The goal of our ELL department is to help our students build a strong foundation for academic achievement while becoming proficient in the English language. The ELL program at Open School serves the individual needs of our students, while maintaining the school philosophy of nurturing their potential as self-directed learners.

For our youngest (K-3) students, ELL teachers work alongside classroom teachers, or in small groups to help ELL students during language arts time.

Students in grades 4-12 have daily ELL-specific language arts class in the ELL classroom. In their regular classrooms, ELL students are supported daily by our bilingual educational assistant, Seng Xiong
