More about Kim...

I am the oldest of four kids in my family. I have one sister and two brothers. My family lives in Minneapolis. My mom and dad have centered our lives around the importance of having family and being close to each other. If there is one thing that my parents taught their children, it has been to not take our family for granted. By their examples, they have showed us how important it was and is to treasure the family moments we have together.

I can remember that dinner time was spent every night as a family. We would sit around the table, eat, and share highlights of our day and even bad parts of our day. Of course, the typical questions from mom and dad were, “How was school? What did you learn today? Do you have any homework?” (They still ask me those same questions weekly!)

Our summers were always spent taking family vacations to places such as Black Hills, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, The Rocky Mountains, and many more exciting places. We have many great memories of those vacation spots! Even now that we are older and I have moved out of the house, we still make time to go on summer vacations together.
Ever since I can remember, my family has carried on many traditions. We have even started some new ones. However, the one tradition that my dad would like to see me carry on is to eat lutefisk every Christmas. This may be a problem!!!

I knew from the time that I was in fifth grade that I wanted to be a teacher. This is because of Mrs. Harper, my fifth grade teacher who was EXCELLENT!!! She inspired me to learn, encouraged me to SOAR with my life, and made me believe in myself and my goals and my dreams.

I attended public school in Minneapolis. I know that I had an enriching education. I attended Bemidji State University and received my degree in Elementary Education. I am currently working on my Masters Degree in special Education at Mankato State University.

I like Open School because of the great kids and the best staff.

I have been at Open School since 1998.

I started my substituting for Kelly Jensen when she was on maternity leave.

My favorite activity as Open is to talk to students and learn from them.

My parents taught me to “never give up” on my goals and dreams.

I am looking forward to marrying someday and beginning a family. I enjoy teaching, writing, reading and social studies. The best class I ever taught is social studies.

My worst habit is buying too many pairs of shoes.

My best ideas come when I am in the car driving.

I have also earned my living by working many, many hours at the Roastery Coffee Shop in Highland Park.

Besides teaching, I spend a lot of time with my family and friends. My family keeps me going and smiling. I love shopping for shoes, seeing movies and going out to eat. I take life one day at a time and enjoy every moment of it.
