May 21-23 was Interim -- a chance for SLC students to take a 3-days break from the regular school routine and spend the time in an experiential learning opportunity of their choice. This year students were enriched by participating in one of the following:

Fishing: Led by Jeff, Allen, Kim and Seng, this group spent time fishing in 3 different parks and learned about laws governing fishing and
53.2840
facts about Minnesota fish from park naturalists.

Community service:  Led by Josie, this group volunteered at Salvation Army and other community organizations.

Outward bound: Led by Megan, retired teacher Julie and two Open School graduates, this group fundraised all year to head to an Outward Bound facility in Oregon and do some hard work to get the camp ready for the summer.

They also enjoyed a day of adventure at the camp.

Theater: Along with Pam, these students  traveled to Omaha, NE to attend a conference on social justice theater.

Musuems of Minneapolis: Students, with Elizabeth, and Suzanne, studied art in the Weisman, Walker and MIA.

Non-athletic triathlon: This event is the brainchild of Leo, Tom and Luke,  and includes
web
yard games, board games, a scavenger hunt in St. Paul, and an "Amazing Race" game in Minneapolis to determine an overall winner.

Landscape and Gardening: Students, led by Nine, transformed some of the grounds at Open School into a botanical paradise.

Peace Education: Led by Stephanie, this group learned the basics of peace education and human rights through guest speakers, readings
web-3
and activities, as well as practicing yoga.

Video/Music Production: Hans worked with students to create and edit their own video and or music productions.

Mosaic:  As a service/art project, students (with Erik) made mosaics that will adorn one of the many planters that  beautify Snelling Avenue.  Mosaic on a Stick sponsored and trained students.
