Welcome!
At this age, children develop academic and social skills they will use for a lifetime. Six and seven-year-olds are energetic and eager, and share the excitement of learning to read, write, and understand how numbers work. Our first job together will be to develop a close-knit community of learners. I believe in getting to know my students and their families well, the classroom door is always ajar and visitors are welcome!
Our classroom will be standards-based and follow the guidelines of St. Paul's Project for Academic Excellence, while also maintaining the Open philosophy of assessing each student's needs and interests. First graders will be immersed in literacy through reader's and writer's workshops and our Math program focuses on number sense by providing hands-on activities, games, and group and partner learning. First graders will learn cooperation, self-worth, responsibility, and have a sense of community in our room and school.
Check back for our daily schedule and information on upcoming field trips, interesting and informative links for first graders, and to see what we are up to!
Warmly,
Lora
